Local Radio Host to Lecture on Classical Music and Broadcasting

The Lyceum Speaker Series invites you to discover the role of art over the airwaves through a free presentation entitled “Classical Music, Community, and Broadcasting,” by KUHF 88.7 FM radio host Elaine Kennedy, on Tuesday, Mar. 1, at 12 p.m., on campus in the college’s new Music Hall, bldg. Hypnosis Stage Show

Help Lone Star College Plan for its Future!

Do you have some ideas to give Lone Star College with regard to its upcoming 2012-2015 Strategic Plan? To begin the process, open forums are going to be held at each college to collect information from faculty, staff and students (YOU!) regarding what we envision to be critical priorities for the LSCS for the next three to five years. Rand Key, Senior Vice Chancellor, will help lead the student-focused strategic planning forum on Wednesday, March 2, in the Health/Science Center, bldg. Sports Day!!

March 4 Panel Discussion to Feature College’s Human Services Students, Program

When students in the college’s human services program decided to let their faculty know how much of an impact the program—and their instruction—had made on their lives, they could have written a book on the subject. So, that’s what they did. They published a book titled “The Future’s so Bright…” in which they chronicled their personal journeys that led them to pursue careers in human services. Several of the student-authors will make a presentation about their efforts at a meeting of the Human Services Student Association on Friday, March 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the General Academic Center (Building G, Room 102). This is an opportunity to hear the students’ stories, ask questions, and learn more about the human services field.

24-Hour Plays

Literary Arts Magazine

The literary arts magazine (Swirl) at Lone Star College-Montgomery wants your poetry, prose, and artwork. Submit by Dec. 1 and enter to win a $50 bookstore gift certificate. Actor’s Workshop

The LSC-Montgomery drama department and Delta Psi Omega invite you to the Actor’s Workshop on Thurs., Nov. 18 and Fri., Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. –Sat., Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in T-101. The Actor’s Workshop consists of four ten-minute plays and focuses on character development. Shows are pay what you will to support the drama scholarships.

College, PBS Producer Premieres Documentary on Texas Civil Rights Fight

A soldier’s fight during WW II did not prepare his family for the civil rights battle that ensued after his death. Pvt. Felix Longoria’s story, now known as “The Longoria Affair,” will be shared with students, faculty, staff and the community on Monday, Nov 15, at LSC-Kingwood. The documentary will be shown at 6:30 p.m. in the LSC-Kingwood Student Fine Arts Theatre.

Special Sky Viewing and Star Party

Gaze into the sky at the annual “Star Party” on Wed., Nov 17, at 6:30 p.m. in bldg. A, rm. 100. Includes an outdoor viewing of the nighttime sky from the top of the new parking garage, an astronomy presentation, and a special treasure hunt with prizes.

You’ll be ready to take computer certification tests (Network+ and A+) when you’re done!

Please come bearing gifts and join the student nurse organization for its 1st annual toy drive benefiting the women and children of the Rogers House, a home for women recovering from substance abuse and their children. The toy drive will run from now through November 22. Toys should be donated unwrapped but you can include a roll of wrapping paper as part of the gift. Psi Beta Honorary Society Wants You!

Psi Beta at LSC-Montgomery is a Psychology Honorary Society, open to students fulfilling these qualifications: (1) complete 12 semester hours with a 3.0 GPA or higher; (2) complete one psychology course with a B average or higher; and (3) have an interest in psychology and have attended at least one psychology club meeting. Upon completing the above criteria, students may pick up an application form from Karen Buckman, bldg. A, rm. 220, or Mike Green, bldg. A, 200. The deadline for the fall 2010 semester is November 1. Upon turning in the form, students may also pay the lifetime membership fee of $50; financial aid is available to those who qualify. Psi Beta Honorary Society Wants You!

Psi Beta at LSC-Montgomery is a Psychology Honorary Society, open to students fulfilling the qualifications: (1) complete 12 semester hours with a 3.0 GPA or higher; (2) complete one semester psychology course with a B average or higher; and (3) have an interest in psychology and have attended at least one psychology club meeting. Upon completing the above criteria, students may pick up an application form from Karen Buckman, bldg. A, rm. 220, or Mike Green, bldg. A, 200. The deadline for the fall 2010 semester is November 1. Upon turning in the form, students may also pay the lifetime membership fee of $50; financial aid is available to those who qualify. Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Montgomery County Women’s Center will hold Domestic Violence Awareness with a movie/panel discussion on Thursday, October 21, from 6:30-8 p.m. in bldg. B, rm. 102. We will show a video about a woman who is in an abusive relationship and her struggles to leave. We will have an expert panel consisting of representatives’ from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and Montgomery County Women’s Center to answer questions you may have about family violence. Become a Model United Nations Delegate!

LSC-Montgomery, in partnership with LSC-Kingwood and LSC-Tomball, each year organizes and trains a model United Nations student delegation for the National Model UN Conference in New York each April. Last year's team, comprised of ten students, represented the country of Ukraine. Competing against more than 2,500 students from 200+ colleges and universities, the delegation earned a "Distinguished Delegation" award. Student delegates participating in the program engage in the following activities: acquiring in-depth knowledge of the delegation's represented country; choosing committee assignments; researching committee topics and country positions; learning about the UN; attending the five-day NMUN conference; and representing their national delegation's interests. This year's application process is underway, with applications being accepted through Oct. 22. 4th Annual Drive-Through Flu Shot Clinic at LSC-Montgomery

A drive-thru flu shot clinic will offer free vaccinations for ages three and up on Saturday, October 16, at Lone Star College-Montgomery. Individuals interested in shots must report in automobiles.
